Here’s an inadvertently Boards of Canada inspired downtempo reinterpretation of an explicitly Krautrock inspired work-in-progress. To explain….
Most of the songs I’ve been working on lately are mined from some of noisey live improv sets I did at CK Cafe (see past Instagram posts: https://www.instagram.com/p/C8QtmFOJUWK), and have been evolving into songs which incorporate the quintessential krautrock pulse – as well as Kraftwerk and Cluster inspired synths, which probably goes without saying.
That said, when I was confirmed to play in the Turndown Tent at Coachella this year, I decided to reimagine some of those upbeat works-in-progress as slower more ambient/chill pieces. It was a great exercise, and actually opened my mind to more possibilities within the songs. I’ve even considered adopting this slowed-down style for the real songs, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there I suppose.
I hesitate to share works-in-progress, let alone remixes of works-in-progress that nobody has heard yet, lol, but this is one of those downtempo remixes, played in the Turndown. As mentioned in a previous post, this was my first set with a new rig – controlling Ableton with an APC40mkII. It had me on my toes to say the least.
